Procedure

Botox is an FDA-approved injectable drug that is used for a variety of purposes. Most people know that Botox is a popular option for reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on the face. Botox is also used to treat several medical issues such as excessive underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis) and migraines.

Botox contains a purified form of botulinum toxin type A that is able to prevent nerves from sending signals to the muscles. This prevents the muscles from being able to contract resulting in temporary relaxation of the muscle.

Expectations

Your masseter Botox injections will be performed in-office at JL Plastic Surgery in Boston. The areas of the face where the injections will be made will be marked. A syringe with a fine needle will be used to inject the Botox into one or both sides of the face where the masseter muscle is located.

Aftercare

The injections process only takes 15 to 30 minutes to complete. There is no recovery period though it is recommended that you avoid exercising for the next 24 hours or so. It will take around one month to see the full results of your masseter Botox treatment.

On average, the results provided from your non-surgical jaw slimming should last for around six months, though this will vary between patients based on a variety of factors. Once six months have passed or your results begin to noticeably fade, follow-up treatments can be scheduled to maintain the results of your masseter Botox treatment.
