Liposuction

Liposuction for men is treated very similarly to liposuction in women. Please see our liposuction page for general information. The quality of the skin matters a great deal and it is best for patients with a focal area of concern.

The main difference between men and women regarding liposuction is when it comes to the abdomen. There are two types of fat in the abdomen: visceral fat and subcutaneous fat. Visceral fat is the fat that surrounds your organs that is there to protect them. Since they are surrounding your organs, it is unsafe to try and remove this type of fat. Subcutaneous fat is the fat that lies between your muscles and your skin. This is the fat that can be address with liposuction. Unfortunately, men tend to gain visceral fat as they gain weight or get older while women tend to gain more subcutaneous fat. As a result, many men are not suitable candidates for abdominal liposuction because most of their fat is underneath the muscles.
