Procedure

Neck liposuction is a procedure that involves removing fat in the neck area. Since it only takes a small amount of fat to change the way someone’s neck looks, this ends up being a problem area for many people. Neck liposuction can also help to refine the shape and appearance of the jawline and chin by removing excess bulk from around the area.

Overview

Neck liposuction typically takes 1 hour to perform and can often be performed under local anesthesia.

This procedure requires a 2mm incision under the chin and sometimes behind the ears. With standard tumescent liposuction techniques, the fat above your neck muscles is removed. On average only 50-100cc of fat is removed but it can make a significant impact on your neck.

Ideal Candidate

A good candidate for neck liposuction is someone who has fat in their neck that is above the muscles. If the fat is under the muscles, a different surgery may be required. Both men and women can benefit from neck liposuction. If there is also loose excess skin around the neck, neck liposuction may not be the ideal procedure. When you come in for your consultation, Dr. Lee will examine the condition of your neck and go over your relevant medical history to help determine what procedure would best suit your goals.

Recovery

You should be able to return home the same day as your neck liposuction procedure. You will need to have someone drive you home. Patients may experience some bruising around the neck as well as swelling. Recovery after neck liposuction involves wearing a neck band for 2 weeks. Sometimes, Dr. Lee will allow you to remove the neck band after only 1 week depending on how things look. You will need to wear the neck band at night for an additional 3 weeks regardless.

Although pain is minimal, most patients take 1 week off from work or school while they are required to wear their neck band. Pain can typically be managed with over-the-counter medication.
